Rushport was founded by Conor Daly in 2011. Conor originally qualified as a pharmacist and ran his own pharmacies before studying for a law degree and qualifying as a barrister in 2005. Conor then joined Assura Plc which is a London Stock Market listed company that specialises in building and managing NHS property assets and owns over £1 billion of NHS occupied property. After setting up the Assura Pharmacy business Conor went on to become the Group Legal and Commercial Director.
Within the pharmacy industry, we are perhaps best known for the work we do on behalf of clients who are seeking permission to open new pharmacies or relocate existing ones. We have detailed knowledge of the NHS (Pharmaceutical Services and Local Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations 2013, as well as the Regulations across the other U.K. jurisdictions of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
With the increase in the use of the electronic prescription service, a greater interest in how the internet can be used to deliver pharmaceutical services and the removal of the 100-hour pharmacy exemption we have been instructed on an increasing number of distance selling/internet pharmacy applications and have quickly become the leaders in this new field. The ability to use the internet to deliver services has also led to an increase in enquiries from across the world from pharmaceutical wholesalers and foreign pharmacy operators interested in expanding into the U.K. market. Private pharmacy is also a growing area of interest as online consultations with doctors can generate private prescriptions that need to be dispensed and delivered. All these new areas have their own challenges and difficulties to overcome in order to be able to operate in a safe and effective way.
In recent years, the partners at Rushport have secured more new pharmacy licences through the various ‘control of entry’ Regulations than any other advisory company or solicitors firm and our track record for delivering on our client’s needs is truly impressive. We work for a wide range of clients, including independent pharmacists, GP practices, major pharmacy multiples, private equity and multinational FTSE listed companies.
Most of the work we do involves the pharmacy industry. We are often instructed by developers who are seeking pharmacy tenants for new medical centres and also by GP practices who may be undertaking their own development and need to be able to consider all the options open to them for securing a pharmacy within their building.
Rushport also advises Private Equity, investors and administrators. We have advised clients on some of the more interesting and larger pharmacy transactions in recent years and we look carefully at the commercial realities of any proposed sale or purchase to ensure that our clients are getting real value for money.
