Pharmacy in GP Practices

“Better working relationships between doctors and pharmacists can make a real difference to patient care. Being located in the same building is often the first step to delivering those better relationships.”

Existing Premises

Over the last decade, there has been an increasing trend toward the co-location of pharmacies with GP practices. There are obvious benefits for patients, the practice and the pharmacy in being co-located, but many projects have received bad press due to perceived conflicts of interest between doctors and pharmacy businesses. Rushport has unrivalled experience in working with GP practices to secure pharmacy tenants in a manner that meets all the necessary regulatory and ethical requirements for both professions and makes commercial sense for all parties.

New Premises

It is now common for medical centre developments to include a pharmacy as part of the plans. Often GP practices work with developers and the developer takes the responsibility of securing a pharmacy tenant for the development. Many of these developers appoint Rushport to act on their behalf. However, there are developments where doctors prefer to take a lease over the pharmacy space and find their own tenant or operate their own pharmacy. We have acted for GP practices in some of the biggest medical centre developments in the UK and we understand the need to work with the providers of existing services to ensure that any new medical centre development is not left with an empty unit that was intended to be a pharmacy but was never able to secure the required licence/contract.

If you are planning a new development, or want to discuss the options for securing a pharmacy at an existing medical centre, then please contact us for an initial discussion to see how we can help you deliver a pharmacy that makes commercial sense and provides significant benefits to your patients.
